Wesley Neal Copeland Jr.

November 2, 1946 — August 6, 2020

Retired Sergeant Major Wesley Neal Copeland Jr., 73, of Killeen passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020 in the comfort of his home. Wesley was born to Doris and Wesley Copeland Sr. on November 2, 1946 in Coatesville, PA. He served in the United States Army for 30 years in Vietnam, Germany, Washington DC, Desert Storm, Kuwait and Ft. Hood, Texas, earning numerous ribbons, badges and medals. He traveled the world for both work and play. He retired at Fort Hood in 1998 and, being a Texan at heart, settled in Killeen, often road-tripping to San Antonio where, in both places, he had numerous friends and lots of good times. As he always said, he had ""a large time"" throughout his life. Wes had the biggest heart, even though he tried to hide that as much as he could, and helped anyone who needed it. He was often a counselor to his fellow veterans and active duty friends as he was sought out in particular because of his experience, good sense, and understanding nature. He loved riding motorcycles and driving fast cars. He loved drinking cold beer and good liquor with his friends. He loved to dance and to sing karaoke, coming from a vast musical background - he had a wonderful voice and played various musical instruments. He was kind, but would tell you in a heartbeat if you were screwing up. He would give his opinion if you asked, but he did not judge. ""Prost, Wesley!"" You were loved by many. Wesley is survived by his wife of 10 years, Elizabeth Copeland; his sons, Steven Copeland and wife Holly of Snohomish, WA, Ryan Strader of Sacramento, CA, and Matthew Strader of Georgetown; his daughter, Ashton Strader of Puyallup, WA; his sister, Arlene Moyer and husband Jack of Downingtown, PA; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wesley is preceded in death by his parents; and his two brothers, Donald Copeland and Scott Copeland. Arrangements are entrusted to Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Belton.
