Stephen George Matlock, 85, of Belton passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at his residence.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
Stephen George Matlock was born on September 14, 1936, to Steven and Helen Matlock in Harrisburg, PA. He joined the Navy in 1956 and served four years. Stephen then joined the Navy Reserves and served for fifteen years. He was always proud to serve his country. He never truly left the military. Even after he was honorably discharged, he worked as a department of defense contractor in Iraq for many years. He was currently working as a department of defense contractor at Fort Hood Military Base before he passed. Even at the age of eighty-five he still worked full time. Stephen enjoyed bird watching, old westerns, eating his wife’s cooking, walking, and visiting with his neighbors. Family was very important to him; he always wanted to know how and what everyone was doing. Stephen was known to have a silent strength. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke you listened.
Stephen is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Matlock on July 31, 2020, his stepson, Mark “Rocky” White, his stepdaughter, Everlyn Humphrey, and step granddaughter, Hannah Trate.
He is survived by his son, John Edward Matlock and wife, Maria of Budapest, Hungary; his daughter, Jill MacKenzie, and husband Mark “Max” of Miami, FL; his stepson, Rick White and wife, Tricia of Hillsboro; his brother, Thomas Matlock of Myrtle Beach, SC; his grandchildren, Roman, Sofia, Abbey, and Madison.
Arrangements are entrusted to Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Belton.
