Sandy Jane Makiej

Sandy Jane Makiej, 75, of Temple died peacefully after a long illness, on Wednesday, February 03, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Temple, officiated by Pastor Don Moore. A reception will follow the service. She was born to Jim and Naomi Myers on April 13, 1940 in Wichita, KS. She grew up in Kansas and Colorado. She married Jim Walden of Panama City, FL in 1959 and moved to Austin where she worked for the State of Texas. After her husband was drafted to Ft. Lewis, WA she again worked in state government until the birth of her daughter. They returned to Austin and she resumed her career as a claims examiner for the state employment agency.After the birth of her son, she became active as a scout leader and served in many school functions. In 1976, she married Walt Makiej and together they ran his business in the Temple area and raised his young daughter, whom she loved as her own. At this time they were very active in the First United Methodist Church.Sandy served on the Administrative Board and also as an usher for many years. In 1996, with all their children grown, they sold their business and started a new adventure. With a CDL license they "hit the road", working for a company that gave them plenty of time off in special places across the States and Canada, including weeks spent in Newfoundland all the way to Victoria Island. As Sandy always said, "God gave me the most perfect life by allowing me to see this wonderful country of ours from one end to the other." She was preceded in death by her mother, Naomi Myers, of Temple TX. Survivors include her wonderful husband, Walt, her beloved daughter Pamela Jane and husband Bryan Hafner, her special step daughter Nicole and husband Andra Fontino, and her loving son Chris and wife Stacey Walden, her beautiful namesake granddaughter Ashley Jane Walden, sister Pat Miller, of Denver and the love of her precious dogs, Augie and Barney. Memorial donations may be made to the Temple Humane Society or First Methodist Church in Temple. Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services, of Belton, are entrusted with the arrangements.
