Ruth Whitmire

Lillian Ruth Whitmire, 98, of Rockdale passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, August 22, 2021 at her residence in Temple.

Private services will be held at a later date. 

She was born May 26, 1923 in Port Arthur to Wayne Slater and Oma McCombs Slater. She married Hoyt Whitmire on Nov. 17, 1941 at First Baptist Church of Port Arthur.

Mrs. Whitmire was a resident of Rockdale from 1952 until 2014 when she then moved to Temple.  She worked in the Rockdale School District as a teachers aide and executive secretary to five superintendents. She was also a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Rockdale. Mrs. Whitmire loved her grandchildren, sewing, gardening and painting.

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Olen Hoyt Whitmire.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth Whitmire and wife Kimberly of Franklin, NC; two daughters, Janet Anderson of Alpine and Karen Matous and husband Wesley of Belton; five grandchildren, Kerry Lynn Sagebiel-Murphy and husband John of DeKalb, Ill, Chris Sagebiel and wife Elizabeth of Austin, Amy Bolin and husband Mike of Seguin, Kyle Matous and wife Torrie of Washington DC, and Allison Matous and fiancée James Winters of Austin.  She is also survived by three great grandchildren.  Dylan Hestand of Moore, OK, Jameson Sagebiel of Austin Texas and Charles Matous of Washington DC
