Richard ‘Dick’ Edwin Eveleigh peacefully and gently left this world in his sleep on April 1, 2023. He courageously survived polio as a child, and faced his most recent health challenges bravely, and with a smile.
He was born in Dexter, NY, one of eight children to Malcolm and Doris Eveleigh. His childhood memories of growing up in a loving family on the family farm in upstate NY were amongst his fondest, and the last ones he held onto and reminisced about in his last days on earth.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lyle, and his sisters Kay and Mary.
He is survived by his children Rick and Courtney, his siblings; Virgil, Angela (Anne), Robert (Bob), and Betty.
He enjoyed the simple things in life, especially the last few years: reading the newspaper, drinking coffee, writing, and receiving letters, a good meal, listening to country music (esp. Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash).
Over the last decade living at Indian Oaks Living Center, he enjoyed gardening, bingo, bird feeding, and helping out where he could, always with a smile and kind attitude.
A heartfelt thank you to the caring and kind health care professionals who cared for him at Indian Oaks, Creekside Terrace, and Baylor Scott & White Temple / Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity or simply plant seeds of kindness and be charitable to one another – keep smiling!
