Mary Ann Mayfield, known affectionately as "Mary Ann" to her friends and family, left this world on July 19, 2024, at the age of 37, following a sudden cardiac arrest in Temple, Texas. Born on July 6, 1987, in Pomona, California, Mary Ann was the beloved daughter of Grace L. Mayfield and the late Steven W. Mayfield. Her close-knit family also included her sister Adrianna De Leon and a host of grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, and cousins who each brought joy and laughter into her life.
She graduated with Honors from Nogales High School in Walnut, California, Class of 2005, where she was known for her friendly & wacky demeanor and her ability to make anyone smile. She continued her education at Cal Baptist University in Riverside, California, where she studied psychology, a field that perfectly suited her innate ability to want to help others.
Generosity was Mary Ann's superpower, she was always the first to offer a helping hand, often before taking care of her own needs. Her pursuits were a reflection of her deep-seated desire to nurture those around her, a quality that shone brightly in her role as a stay-at-home mom and as a part-time in-home care provider to her own mother, Gracie. Mary Ann in her own unique way provided a fun loving home to her mother.
Her late husband Patrick Oliver, and their cherished daughter Kaitlyn Oliver, who both unfortunately predeceased her in a tragic boating incident in 2017. Patrick lost his life trying to save their daughter Kaitlyn. Mary Ann grieved their loss until her last day on earth.
Mary Ann's passion for music was a constant source of joy and inspiration in her life. She dreamed of being a songwriter and poured her soul into her song lyrics, sharing them with her sister & close friends. She also enjoyed writing in her journal, it was a treasure trove of life stories and introspective thoughts. Mary Ann enjoyed helping others even above her own self. Her ability to lift the spirits of her friends, offering advice and motivation when they were feeling down, was a gift that made her truly special. She had a knack for finding the funny side of life's challenges. She could find something funny in just about any situation, which is why she lived by the words of the great Robin Williams, "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." Mary Ann never lost her spark, and that madness definitely made every moment with her an adventure. She will be remembered for the joy and laughter she very much tried to hold on to & bring into the world when she could. Though her time with us was far too short, Mary Ann's impact on the lives of those she touched will be felt forever. She was the embodiment of generosity in action, always placing the needs of others above her own. As we say goodbye to this free spirited woman, let us remember her as she would want us to, with a smile on our faces and her laughter echoing in our hearts. We will take solace in trying to focus on the more happy & positive memories she left behind. Her light will continue to shine brightly, guiding us with the love and wisdom she shared so freely. Mary Ann, your song will forever echo in our hearts.
