Marcus Power Jr.

Marcus Power, Jr. was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky, on May 1, 1952. He was the fourth child and eldest son of Marcus Power, Sr. and Willie Mae Smith. He was affectionately known as "Junebug" by his five siblings. His brothers also called him "Rock."

The sons and daughters of an Army man, Marcus, Jr., and his siblings traveled the world, living in Fort Knox, Kentucky; Augsburg, Germany (where they got to see the White Cliffs of Dover); Fort Ord, California; Fort Dix, New Jersey; and Washington, D.C.

Marcus Jr. matriculated through D.C. Public Schools before serving his country as a distinguished member of the U.S. Navy. His service included the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge from the U.S. military, he received multiple accommodations for his service. These included the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

Marcus Jr. was a gifted man who cherished his family and friends. He had a special love for his children and grands of whom he was most proud of. His many talents included being a skillful barber, painter, and cook. He was known for his outgoing personality, booming voice, sense of humor, big smile, and an even bigger heart. While working at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, patients and staff were drawn to him. He was also an "animal whisperer" and enjoyed being surrounded by his dogs.

During his six-year illness, Marcus Jr. loved to remind his family that "His mercy endureth forever." Our awesome God spoke to and worked with Marcus Jr. during this sacred and precious time.

One of his favorite scriptures was Psalm 91: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty." Now, Marcus Jr., you are abiding in the secret place of the most high on your new journey.

Marcus Jr. entered the enteral rest of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 22, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Sr., Willie Mae, and his middle brother, David.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved and loyal wife, Sarah Christine Power. They spent 37 wonderful years together, 17 of which were as a married couple. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Marcus III (Tanza), David Siem, LaTanya (Derrick), Joshua (Sherah), Nikki, Cynthea, Jacob, Edward James Hudson, Jr., and Theodore Anthony Hudson. He also leaves to cherish his memory his siblings Carolyn, Sandra, Elaine (Gregory) and Ronnie. He leaves numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins, and friends. 

The family appreciates those who spoke encouraging words, inquired about Marcus during his illness, and the compassionate medical staff who cared for him. We thank those who have sent kind condolence messages and offered their prayers.
