For 47 remarkable years, John devoted his life to education, imparting knowledge and inspiring countless students. He began his teaching career at Copperas Cove High School, where he worked tirelessly for 37 years until his retirement in 2008. His love for teaching never waned, as he continued to share his expertise at Central Texas Christian School for another decade. Over the years, John was celebrated with numerous awards for his exceptional contributions to education, including the prestigious Lamar Award of Excellence and the Killeen Daily Herald Award for Excellence in Teaching, both received in 1996. His dedication did not go unnoticed as he garnered many Teacher of the Year accolades, leaving an indelible mark on the many lives he touched.

John's commitment to education was matched only by his love for his family. He shared an enduring partnership with his wife, Norma Murray, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage. Their relationship was a shining example of love, commitment, and resilience, foundational principles that nurtured a warm household filled with laughter, support, and countless adventures. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Hope Couture and John W. Murray, and their chosen child, Don Clement - who were all truly the pride of his life. John took immense joy in celebrating their milestones and nurturing their dreams, serving as an unwavering support and guiding presence throughout their journeys.

As a grandfather, John found new depths of joy in the company of his grandchildren: Johnny Kaden Murray, Jacquelyn Hope Couture, Claire Ann Couture and Kason Norman Murray. He reveled in the moments spent with them, whose laughter and spirits filled his heart with boundless pride. Every story shared, every game played, and every lesson imparted became cherished memories stamped eternally in the hearts of those who loved him.

Beyond his family and professional achievements, John was a passionate golfer, spending countless hours on the course refining his skills and delighting in the friendly camaraderie it brought. The game was more than a pastime for him; it embodied inspiration, connection, and joy, reflecting the vibrant spirit he carried.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Norma Jean Murray; their children, Hope Ann Couture, John William Murray and wife Kristi Kay Murray and Don Clement; his grandchildren, Johnny Kaden Murray, Jacquelyn Hope Couture, Claire Ann Couture and Kason Norman Murray; and his siblings, Carol Moritz, Jim Murray, Cathy Racicot, Mary Murray and Bill Murray.
