John Lewis Cockrum John Lewis Cockrum, 86, of Temple, formerly of Houston passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at a Temple nursing home. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 31, 2012 at Holland Cemetery with Chaplain John Tidball Officiating. John Lewis Cockrum was born May 16, 1926 to John Luther and Sarah Ella (Baggett) Cockrum in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Reagan High school in 1943 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 until 1945 when he was honorably discharged. He worked for the U.S Postal Services for 33 years before his retirement in 1981. He was a lifetime member of National Association of Letter Carriers of Houston. He enjoyed working out at the gym , fishing, bus ministry which he did for 20 years, racing with kids and go karts ( the kind that goes 85 miles per hour) . He was one of the most giving persons you'll ever meet. Survivors are two nephews, Wallace Fleming Jr. of Harker Heights and Michael Fleming of Dallas; two nieces, Elaine Bischof of Houston, TX and Gayle Williford of Pearland, TX and Numerous great nieces and nephews.
