Joe David Avery,67, of Rogers passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at a local hospital. Joe was born on October 21, 1949 to Carl and Frances Avery in Temple. He retired as an Operator Foreman at TxDot after 30 years. He then worked as a truck driver for Construction Materials Service for several years. Joe married Linda Adams on December 31, 1995 in Little River Academy. He was known for being a fun, loving Cowboy. Joe was inducted into the Bell County Cowboy Hall of Fame in June 2016. Joe enjoyed roping, hunting, fishing, working cattle, and trail rides. He was involved in many organizations like, Central Texas Youth Fair, where he served as Superintendent of the local Bell County Youth Fair Horse Show, chaperoned F.F.A events and participated in several Salt Grass Trail Rides. Of all the things Joe enjoyed most, nothing brought him as much happiness as his grandchildren. He was very active with his grandchildren's schools events and would even host Western Days, providing the kids an experience with saddled hay bale rides and steer dummy roping. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Frances Avery. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Linda Avery of Rogers; his sons, James Avery of Salado and Jesse Finger of Temple;his daughter, Tonya Avery of Little River Academy;his brothers, Robert Avery and Charles Avery, both of Temple;his sister, Shirley Roskey of Temple; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 9,2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Belton. Funeral Services are pending for Saturday, June 10, 2017at 3C Cowboy Church in Salado with Ray Ashby officiating. Burial to follow at Greathouse Cemetery.
