James Cleo Tarver III

July 5, 1952 — February 18, 2017

Mr. James C. Tarver III, 64, of Harker Heights, TX, was called to be with his Heavenly Father on 18 Feb 2017. James was born on 5 July 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, to James C. Tarver Jr. and Minnie Lee Irby. During his life, James worked in a variety of vocations, to include Welder, Truck Driver, Equipment Operator, Journeyman Roofer, Ammunition Warehouse Worker, Recreation Aid/Youth Basketball Coach. His last position was as a Food Service Worker in the Darnell Army Medical Center Nutrition Care Division, Fort Hood, TX. James retired in September 2014, after 20 years of government service. His hobbies and interests were astrology, fishing, golfing, Formula 1 Racing, basketball, football, museums & music (of any kind, but jazz in particular). James was also member of the National Audobon Society. However, his greatest hobby was making those around him happy. James never met a stranger; everyone was a potential friend. He would go out of his way to assist anyone. He had a generous, selfless spirit - never shying away from volunteering his services or donating items or money to worthwhile causes. He loved serving the Lord & always gave God the glory for his many blessings. Because of his loving heart, strength, and wisdom, he was a cornerstone for both his immediate and extended family; he was loved and respected by all. James is survived by his loving wife, Jackie, of over 30 years; son - Marcus; daughters Larinda, Yolanda and Jamie; seven sisters (Margarita, Charlotte, Debra, Denise, Regina, Alisa and Twanda); 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother & sisters Barbara, Carolyn and Telina. A visitation will be held on Monday 27 February 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Crotty Funeral Home in Belton. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday 28 February 2017 at 11:00 AM at Grace Christian Center, in Killeen. Pastor Scott Wilmont will be officiating.
