Howard Ray Montgomery, a remarkable soul who filled the world with rhythm and love, passed away on October 31, 2024, in Temple, Texas.
Born on April 29, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Lawrence Howard and Dora Ellen (Little) Montgomery, Howard lived a life enriched by music, craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to his family and country.
Howard proudly served in the United States Army retiring as a Sergeant First Class. His dedication to service extended into his personal life, as he became a Lifetime Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, embodying the values of honor and sacrifice.
For 40 years, Howard was known as a talented drummer in North East Kansas, captivating audiences with his infectious energy and passion for music. He was also a dedicated electrician and a web designer, showcasing his versatile talents and unwavering work ethic. In everything he undertook, Howard poured his heart, making each note and every project a reflection of his creative spirit. Howard was also a gifted craftsman. He found joy in creating special gifts for the ladies of the family during Christmas, leaving a lasting impression through handmade treasures filled with love that will forever be cherished.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Ann Root-Montgomery; a son, Will Montgomery, and wife Wendy; a daughter, Beth Pritchett, and husband Jeff; a brother, Larry Montgomery, and wife Beth; as well as five grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew. The warmth and laughter of these relationships were cherished by Howard.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alta Tindall.
As we remember this exceptional man, we celebrate his immense contributions to music and family, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him. His spirit continues to resonate in our hearts, reminding us that, while his physical presence has departed, the music of his life will forever echo in our memories.
