Newspaper Obit Glen Solomon Final 1/13/2013 GLEN HORACE SOLOMON, U.S. Army, Pvt. 1st Class, 1000th Treadway Engineer Bridge Company (Ret.) Mr. Solomon passed December 26, 2012 of natural causes at the VA Hospital, Temple, TX. He is survived by his sister, Irene Philips nee Solomon, his daughters Fonda Wiegand nee Solomon, and Melody Stokes nee Solomon. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Born Dec. 21, 1919 in Bell County, TX, Mr. Solomon was a mechanic by trade and lived in Washington, and California before coming home to retire in Temple. During World War II in the Ardennes Rhineland Central Europe, he worked with teams to build treadway bridges across rivers for the U.S Army, allowing passage for armaments, troops, and vehicles of all types. Mr. Solomon and his men were often under enemy fire as they did their work. He was married three times, first to Bernice Wilde, second to Ruth Isaac, and third to Marjorie Graham. A memorial for Mr. Solomon will be held Saturday, January 19th, 2:00 p.m at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home chapel, 1424 Martin Luther King Jr Lane Temple, Texas 76504.
