Elisabeth Stefhanie Townsend

Elisabeth Stefhanie Townsend, 82, of Harker Heights passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at a local hospital. Elisabeth was born to Hedwig and Franz Purkert on March 23, 1938 in Czechoslovakia. She spent her days caring for her family. Elisabeth enjoyed sewing, gardening, quilting, cooking, and traveling to Germany, where she spent many years. She adored her grandchildren and animals. A graveside service for Elisabeth will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, maximum occupancy of the service is 10 people. Elisabeth is survived by her sons, Rick Hays and Francis Hays, both of Harker Heights; her granddaughters, Jennifer Chilton and husband Rob of Tennessee, and Mary Beth Soderquest; her stepchildren, Brenda Townsend of Austin, Janice Williamson and husband Bart of New Mexico, Lorri Townsend of Temple, Richie Townsend and wife Carol of Katy, and Brad Townsend and wife Kathy of Learner; her grandchildren, Clara Forrest, Logan Forrest and wife Missy, with Lizzy, Amber Nunez, Daniella Gutierrez, Felicia Gutierrez, Taylor Townsend, Andrew Townsend, Cory Townsend, Ryan Townsend, Dylan Townsend, Leslie Townsend, Melissa Kirk, Heather Hays, and Carrie Hays; her brother, Franz Purkert and wife Walteraud; her sister, Martha Fabarius and husband Manfred; and many adored great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Elisabeth is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Townsend; her daughter, Linda Hays Soderquest; her sister, Christi Muller; her brother, Alfred Purkert; and her parents.
