Ted was born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania on November 21, 1946 to Harry J. MacLean and Katherine Bartholomew. He was one of three children. His sisters are Zena MacLean and Ruth Ann Alibrando-Mendenhall. He leaves behind many cousins, who called him Teddy, and friends who were special to him. The family moved from Pennsylvania to Florida in 1954. Ted went to grade and middle schools in Melbourne and graduated from Satellite High in 1964. Ted was a golfer and, while in high school, participated in several tournaments and volunteered at professional tournaments, one in which Sam Smead participated.

Ted went to the University of Florida (Go Gaters!) and during summer breaks, worked in various jobs at the Kennedy Space Center. He participated in the ROTC program while at the University of Florida and, after graduation in 1968, was commissioned in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. Ted served in the Army as a Finance Officer and worked in Germany, Korea, Ft. Irwin, California, and the Pentagon.

Ted retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years of service. He married the love of his life, M. Patricia Capin in 1982. Pat served in the Army and retired as a Colonel in 2001. Upon retirement, they located to Belton, Texas and built a beautiful southwestern style home. Ted joined Heights Mortgage Connection and served as CFO and CIO for ten years. Ted and Pat volunteered in the Texas Golden Retriever Rescue and helped rehome many Golden Retrievers. Ted and Pat loved to travel and were members of several committees in the HHUMC Church.
