Dr. Weldon Bowling

Weldon James Bowling, 91, of Killeen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Born on June 13, 1931, in Denton, Texas, Weldon was a man of great intelligence and unwavering faith, who touched the lives of many with his wisdom and kindness.

Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, James and Iva Bowling. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean Bowling of Killeen; his sons, Jeff Bowling and his wife, Sherry Glover of Killeen, Todd Bowling and his wife, Debbie of Oklahoma City, OK, and Sean Bowling of Ft. Worth; his brother Paul Bowling and his wife, Carmen of Denton; his nephew, PL Bowling of Justin; his two grandchildren, Austin Bowling and his wife, Cameron of Dallas, and Melanie O'Brien of Manchester, NH.

Weldon's pursuit of knowledge was truly remarkable. He earned a Doctor of Education from North Texas University, a Master of Public Administration from North Texas University, a Master of Science from the University of Central Texas, and a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. Weldon's passion for education and his dedication to lifelong learning were truly inspiring to those who knew him. Weldon served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy for over 20 years. After his time in the military, Weldon continued to serve his community in various capacities. He was ordained by the Diocese of Austin as a Deacon, and he was a member of the Killeen Lodge No. 1125 and an Endowed Member of the Waco Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Weldon also served as a Chairman for Killeen Small Business Development for many years, and he was awarded for his outstanding service to the communities of Killeen, Harker Heights, and Nolanville. In 1987, Weldon was recognized as Educator of the Year, a testament to his commitment to the education and development of others.

Weldon's faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he served as an Elder at Central Christian Church in Killeen. He was a steadfast believer in the power of prayer and the importance of living a life guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ. Weldon's faith-filled life was a beacon of light to those around him, and his unwavering commitment to his spiritual journey was a source of comfort and inspiration to many.

Family was of the utmost importance to Weldon, and he cherished the time he spent with his loved ones. He was a devoted husband to his wife Betty Jean, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and faith. Weldon was a proud father to his three sons, Jeff, Todd, and Sean, and he took great joy in watching them grow into the fine men they are today. As a grandfather, Weldon's love knew no bounds, and he delighted in the accomplishments and milestones of his grandchildren, Austin and Melanie.

Weldon was a man of great intelligence and faith, and his life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and service to others. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now resting in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As we gather to celebrate Weldon's life and honor his memory, let us remember the lessons he taught us and strive to live our lives with the same grace, wisdom, and faith that he demonstrated each and every day.

Dr. Weldon James Bowling will have a viewing held one hour prior to his services from 10:00 AM to 11:00 A.M. at Central Christian Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Central Christian Church in Killeen. His graveside will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Roselawn Memorial Park located at 3801 Roselawn Dr. in Denton.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Central Christian Church in Killeen, where Weldon's legacy of faith and service will continue to touch the lives of those in need. As we say our final goodbyes to our dear brother in Christ, Weldon James Bowling, let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." Amen.
