Dr. Arthur Lloyd Jones

November 16, 1932 — July 5, 2017

Dr. A. Lloyd Jones, long-time physician of Belton, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at his home in Belton. He was a member of the Belton Church of Christ, and often led the singing for services. Dr. Jones was born in Clovis, New Mexico, on November 16, 1932, and was the fourth of the five sons born to his family. The family moved to Sweetwater, Texas, where he grew up, and in high school, he was drum major of the Sweetwater High School Mustang Band. He was always known for his excellent posture - even received an award at the school as ""Mr. Good Posture."" There he was very impressive as drum major, leading the school band onto the field at football games. He graduated from Sweetwater High and went on to finish his first degree at Abilene Christian College. He then moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to attend the University of Tennessee Medical School. Upon completion of his studies there, he moved for a short time to Dixon, Tennessee. He then returned to Texas, and moved to Belton and began his practice where he served at both Scott and White Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital. In 1973, he purchased the 1898 Beamer-Jones house in Belton, and the house became an anchor of the Belton Historical Homes tour. He loved history, and was very active in historical societies in Texas and New Mexico. Dr. Jones loved the town of Belton and its people, and was very happy in his life there. After his retirement, he continued to use his medical skills to serve the needy citizens of Bell County through the Body of Christ Community Clinic. Dr. Jones is survived by two brothers: George Jones of Mt. Pleasant, and Gene Jones of Fort Worth, and two sisters, Etta Lynch of Houston, and Ruth Ann Arnold of Rockwall, Texas. There will be a private service for the family. Memorials may be made in honor of Dr. Jones to Belton Church of Christ (3003 N Main St, Belton, TX 76513) or Love of Christ Pantry (2000 Airport Rd, Temple, TX 76504).
