Douglas Kay Metcalf

Douglas Kay Metcalf, affectionately known as Doug, was born on May 16, 1942, in Jackson, Michigan. He left this world on October 17, 2024, in Temple, Texas, after a valiant battle with illness. Doug's life was a rich tapestry woven with dedication to his country, selflessness, and profound love for his family.

Doug served his country diligently as a member of the U.S. Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. His exceptional skills as a helicopter mechanic were recognized widely; he spent many fulfilling years working for Boeing, where his expertise made an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know and work alongside him.

His personality radiated warmth and kindness; Doug was giving and kind-hearted, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a laugh. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will fondly remember his vibrant sense of humor that could brighten even the darkest of days. He was not just someone who had a good joke to share; he had an extraordinary gift for making others feel valued and cherished.

Doug was deeply proud of his family, which he considered his greatest accomplishment. He is survived by his loving son, Gerald Metcalf, and his wife Kelley, along with his daughter, Peggy Smithson, and her husband Jim, all of Temple. They, along with countless friends and extended family, will forever hold the memories of his laughter, wisdom, and the love that he so generously gave.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marianne Metcalf, and his son, Frank Metcalf, both of whom he missed dearly. Their bonds of love transcended sorrow, and the impact they made on each other's lives remains an enduring testament to the strength of family ties.

In his leisure, Doug found solace in the peacefulness of fishing and the timeless enjoyment of watching westerns, activities that reflected both his adventurous spirit and his fondness for simple pleasures.

A memorial service to honor Doug's life will take place on October 23, 2024, at 3:00 PM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
