Derek Hardy, a devoted family man and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, in Fort Cavazos, Texas. Born on July 21, 1959, Derek's life was a testament to his unwavering love for his family and the friendships he built along the way.

Having worked in construction in Virginia, Derek dedicated himself to his career until health concerns led him to retire. Despite the challenges he faced, his spirit remained unbroken. He was known for his passion for life, whether that involved enjoying the warmth of the Texas sun or dressing with pride—always ensuring his outfits were complemented by a good pair of shoes and a clean hat.
Derek was lucky to spend his last days surrounded by his daughter and her extended Army family, who showered him with love and kindness during a poignant time. He deeply cherished his many nieces, nephews, and friends, holding each relationship close to his heart. One of his greatest joys in life was fishing with his daughter and engaging in the laughter and adventures shared with his beloved grandchildren: Trevaughn Richard Blake, Ramarie Rashun Furlow, Aalani Chanel Furlow, X’Zavian Vantrell Hardy, ZaKari J’veion Hardy, Annalese Xamia Akiko Peart-Evans, and Aiko Alexandria Peart-Evans.
Known for his loud voice and infectious laughter, music was another great love of his; he enjoyed singing passionately, unencumbered by how he felt. In his better days, he had a remarkable talent for drawing that showcased his creative spirit. Derek's proudest accomplishment was always his family, a legacy he held dear to his heart.
He is survived by his significant other, Mirty Rios, and her son Josiah Williams, who brought joy into his life. He leaves behind his children: Rashun Ramu Furlow and his wife Delicia A. (Dean) Furlow, Van Ismail Hardy, and Sharlese Jakia Peart-Evans. His siblings, Stanley C. Moorer Jr. (Angella), Janice Inez Hardy, Marcella Yvette Zaffa (Sofia), Anita Diane Thomas (Jesse), Daniel Lee Hardy (Lisa) Cynthia Vertell Hardy, Sherry Elisabeth Moorer Johnson (Phillip), and Teresa Darlene Moorer Vasquez (Raul), will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Derek was preceded in death by his sister Juanita Denise Hardy (McDaniels) and his parents, Stanley C. Moorer Sr. and Cornell Coree Davis.

His legacy will live on through the love he shared and the memories created, forever illuminating the lives he touched.
