Dennis Lee Burris, age 78, of Belton, was called to his eternal home in Heaven on November 12, 2023. Dennis was born in Anderson County on the fifth day of May 1945 to parents Jacob D. Burris and Ruby Holt Burris.

Dennis had a fulfilling career dedicated to serving and protecting others.  He worked for DPS in Dallas, TX and served as a sheriff’s deputy for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department.  Additionally, he worked as a correctional officer, ensuring the safety and well-being of those in his care. 

Not only did Dennis exemplify dedication in his professional life, but he also served in the National Guard until 1969.  During his service, he displayed exceptional skills and earned the Sharp Shooter Medal.

Dennis was a hard-working man, who loved his dogs, spending time with his family and helping others. He enjoyed talking about movies, telling stories, and watching football... especially the Dallas Cowboys. He also loved to write poetry, which was one of his hidden talents.

Dennis was preceded in death by his wife Linda, parents Jacob and Ruby Burris, and siblings Leona Thumann, Elvin Burris, Harold Burris, and Joe Billy Burris.

Dennis is survived by his daughter Tonya Conn and husband Roy of Belton, TX; son, Christopher Burris and wife Jenny of Baytown, TX, and siblings, Gail Campbell, Troy Burris, Ron Burris, and Jacob Larry Burris. Mr. Burris also leaves behind grandchildren to cherish his memory; Katelyn Bentley, Lauren Blake, Calli Gibson, Brandy Davis, Avery Burris, Camden Shook, Anthony Rodriguez, Jonathan Rodriguez, Riley Conn, Peyten Wilkinson and her husband Dustin and great-grandchildren, Blaire Rodrigues, Brantley Gibson, Kannon Gibson, and Gunner Gibson, Eli Wilkinson and Kaysen Wilkinson.

The family would like to recognize the loving care that Harbor Hospice provided during our loved one's time of need.
