Betty Jean Chewning Vernon, 75, of Temple passed away on Monday September 26, 2022 at BSW Hospital in Temple, TX.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00P.M. on October 7, 2022 at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Belton with HK Ballard officiating. Her body was cremated. A streaming of the service will be found at 2:00 PM CST on October 7 at www.crottyfh.com.
Betty was born on October 23, 1946 in Columbus, Georgia to John Quinton Chewning Sr. and Alma Chatwood Chewning.
Betty graduated high school in 1964 from Jordan Vocational High School in Columbus, GA where she was a member of DECA. In junior high school she was a majorette, played clarinet in the band. Betty married Jack Russell Vernon in December 1973 at the main post chapel at Fort Benning, GA. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2008. Betty worked as a teacher's aide at BISD until her retirement in 2015. She was very outgoing and loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors are her daughter Nichole Vernon of Belton and her brother John Chewning and wife Martha of Hamilton, GA.
She was preceded in death by her father on April 6, 1967 and by her mother, Alma Slay, on December 13, 2021.
