Benjamin Joseph Johnstone, son of Aaron and Aileen Johnstone, was stillborn at 7:50pm on January 31, 2022 at Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple, TX. He is survived by his parents; siblings, Eve, Miri and Asher Johnstone; grandparents, Joe Nieto, Barbara Johnstone and Keith Johnstone; uncles, Joey Nieto, Harry Johnstone, Ethan Johnstone; aunts, Jackie Aranda, Victoria Johnstone, and many cousins.
What can one write about the life of a baby born into heaven? Benjamin’s entire existence here on earth was in his mother’s womb. None of us were able to see him, hold him, play with him, change his diapers, feed him, or watch him grow. Aileen was able to carry him and feel his weight, and we each were able to feel him kick. What is his purpose, his impact, his legacy? We don’t know all of those answers, but through Benjamin’s life, God has shown His great love for Benjamin and for our family. Benjamin was spared any suffering on this earth. He is now with our Creator and has been made perfect. He is waiting for us and we will rejoice when we meet him in heaven. God has given us the kind of love and comfort only He can provide. He has poured out His love freely on us through family and friends who have loved us, hugged us, comforted us with words, and provided food.
From that perspective, Benjamin’s life has tremendous purpose, and has made an incredible impact. God has reminded us of His unfailing love and that He shares in our joy and our pain. A friend shared a psalm with us that holds meaning for Benjamin, and for all of us:
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
Psalm 139:13-16
