Aldine Carlisle, age 92 of Temple, went to join the Lord and her loved ones on January 5, 2019 after a long battle with dementia. She was surrounded by her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at 2 pm at the Holland Cemetery in Holland, TX. Aldine was born in Logan, West Virginia on July 5, 1926 to Reece and Janie Browning. She had two brothers, Rex and Reece, and was the middle child of the three. She graduated from Logan High School and received a Bachelors and Masters degree in education from Marshall University. She taught elementary school for 42 years, including schools in West Virginia and Texas. She was a gifted, persistent teacher and once received a Golden Apple Award from the Temple Daily Telegram. She was very involved in her community and loved seeing her students succeed. She always served others before thinking of herself, and she always wanted to ensure that the needs of those around her were met regardless of their race, creed, or religion. Aldine married Mike Carlisle in 1962 and he brought her to Texas. They lived in Holland and then Temple, and were happily married until Mike died in 1998. Their son Michael was born in 1966, and they designed their lives around family. Aldine loved her family in West Virginia and Houston, and played a big role in the lives of her nieces. The Carlisle house was always a place filled with kids. Aldine acted as a second mom to many kids from the neighborhood. She always provided snacks and was famous for cooking up a huge breakfast for Michael's friends who spent the night on the weekends. Trips to the pool, Six Flags, West Virginia, and other fun places were always on the calendar. Just like in her career, she always gave of herself to anyone and everyone. Aldine was always the smallest person in the room, but had a lot of heart and was as tough as nails. When she thought she was right about something, she would fight hard for her cause. She was equally swift with discipline and with love. She definitely made the world a better place because of her time here and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Andrew Carlisle, and is survived by her son, Michael Reece Carlisle, grandchildren Michael Colton Carlisle and Caitlin Carol Carlisle, and one great grandchild, Michael Waylon Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements handled by Crotty Funeral Home, Belton, Texas.
